Dorothy Day West

In 2017, we distributed 862,073 pounds of food to 11,375 families in Cass and Clay counties! 50% of the people served at this site were children and seniors, two groups particularly susceptible to the effects of malnutrition.
At the supplemental food pantry, we partner with Holy Cross Church to provide an additional site where people can access perishable food items as part of Great Plains Food Bank’s Daily Bread program.
We serve an average of 2,619 people and give away an average of 71,839 pounds of food each month. This site is operated by a core group of 7-10 volunteers who have committed many years of service to helping our neighbors in need. People can come once a week to receive these perishable items meant to supplement other food resources. This program has been a great addition to our organization.
This supplemental food pantry site distributes Daily Bread items received through Great Plains Food Bank. It is open Monday AND Wednesday from 3pm 4:30pm or until all food boxes have been distributed. Clients can come once a week to receive services.

Dorothy Day House

The shelter has the capacity to house 13 men who are homeless. We are unique because we operate out of a house and try to maintain a home-like environment for those who walk through our doors. Recognizing that the people we serve have experienced a tremendous amount of trauma, homelessness is traumatic, and many people are coming to us straight from the streets, we allow our guests time to adjust to the shelter environment and our program.
